I think another plus of living in a city is that you can be relatively anonymous when you go about everyday tasks. <br /><br />If you had a cabin everyone in the small town would hear about the hermit coming down the mountain again and kids would tell ghost stories about you house. Maybe even visit you on Halloween.<br /><br />If I had an apartment in the city I would try to shop at different markets and buy coffee from different coffee shops days apart so that I wouldn't need to cosy up to the locals.
